Hard Times in the Big Easy
Miss Cleo's soup kitchen
Miss Cleo’s was a soul kitchen before Katrina. Famous for her gumbo, welcoming, down home style, and her giving of advice to any in need, her restaurant in the 9th ward was destroyed by Katrina. Afterward, Miss Cleo put her cooking talents to work manning soup kitchens for those in need.
Seeing the continued need, she used her insurance money to set up a soup kitchen. She has had many prominent citizens of New Orleans donate to the soup kitchen. In another part of the building, there is a banquet room that such citizens have held fund raisers and other activities in to keep awareness of the problems (as well as enjoy her famous gumbo).
And that is what the mundane world knows of Miss Cleo’s. The supernatural world knows that it is accorded neutral ground, just as her restaurant was.
